The role:

We are currently searching for a Head of Data Engineering for a Zurich based client as the company look to build a new cloud landscape specifically with Microsoft Azure. The Head of Data Engineering will take a proactive approach to shape, design and take ownership of a team of IT professionals in the area of international financial information. You will lead a team of roughly 15 individuals across several locations on a variety of mission critical tasks and projects around data collections, financial reporting for risk and asset management and cloud data transformations. This is a role that combines hands on technical data engineering practise, management duties and stakeholder engagement.

About you:

The ideal candidate comes from a Software Development background and has combined IT Engineering experience with Data and Cloud work. More specifically, you are experienced in creating solutions to complex roadblocks and functional problems in an efficient and timely way. You are able to act independently to make important technical and business decisions and are also able to communicate effectively with all levels of seniority and in team environments. You are able to mentor, guide and follow the progress of junior employees and can also effectively communicate with senior stakeholders on a day-to-day basis.

Background:

• You ideally have background education in the field of IT Software Engineering, Data Science/Engineering or a similar field
• You have experience working with Cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure (preference) or Amazon Web Services and have used this recently. The more the better!
• Knowledge in the field of data engineering with Spark based processing, ideally with Databricks alongside relational databases and DWH
• Understanding of (automated) testing and modern software practises for quality improvement and sustainability
• Leadership experience of diverse, agile data or software development teams
• Ability to communicate and interact with senior stakeholders to translate business and technical needs, requirements and details respectively.
• Strong technical writing and ability to address various partners, customers and colleagues in a clear and accurate way.
